Standby & Portable Generator Installation — Baltimore & the DMV
Automatic standby systems and portable generator hookups, wired to code.
BGE outages during summer storms are not rare, and a generator only helps if it is wired into the house correctly. Extension cords through a window are how people lose a house.

Generator Installation — frequently asked questions
Portable or standby?
A portable with an interlock and inlet box runs $1,200–$2,600 and covers essentials. A whole-home standby runs $6,500–$9,500 installed and switches over automatically.
Can I just backfeed a dryer outlet?
No. Backfeeding energizes the utility line and can kill a lineworker. It is also illegal. We install a proper interlock or transfer switch.
Do you handle the gas line?
We handle every electrical portion and coordinate with a licensed gas fitter for standby units.
Is a permit required?
Yes for transfer switches and standby systems. We pull it and meet the inspector.
